Alright for what it was worth
Skin Walkers had some good points - namely a few hot actors - but other than that the movie was a bit tired. The story was one of those sort of been there done it before but with this tiny little twist in the plot that hooks you on the back cover. I mean who has seen X "evil" group riding Harley's and every time a fight scene starts so does the techno. Sorry but this horror fan is wanting a bit more these days. This flick was passable on a slow afternoon when you're home in bed sex (as I was) but other than that...skip it.
13 year old boy.............. Kids horror MOVIE?
I think that this movie had a good cast their acting was not all that bad. The 13 year old boy was belived to posses a power that would end the curse of the skin walkers. Some wanted to be cured and willingly died protecting the boy and some wanted the curse to continue. What turned out to be his power was not really all that and this movie could have been much better. I would have said that this movie was made as a horror movie for kids except for a scene of sexuality. Rent this movie if you feel you need to find out for your self but don't buy it unless if you are 13 years old or are buying it for one.

DISTURBIA IN SUBURBIA!
'Disturbia' is one of the those films that has that "seen it all before" feel to it. It does have a few thrills along with a good cast but,on the down side some of the characters do some really stupid things. Normally I can overlook some of this but, when it effects the authenticity of the story, it hurts the overall experience. It's worth a look but, rent it before you buy it.
never spy on your neighbors
Disturbia is a really good suspense movie. It's about a teenager who is under house arrest for punching his teacher in the face. While in his home all day, he has nothing to do but start a hobby where he spies on his neighbors all day. This turns out to be both good AND bad. Good in that, his new neighbor turns out to be an attractive female around his age, and he develops a relationship with her as the story goes along. Bad in that, you guessed it, one of the neighbors is a killer.
Throughout the movie you're left guessing whether this supposed killer is actually doing any killing, or whether the teenager is just imagining all the things he believes he sees. There's also some humor thrown into the mix, but it never occurs during any inappropriate moments- the suspense parts are definitely believable and it's overall a good movie that kept my interest. Are there better suspense movies out there? Absolutely. But I enjoyed this one.
A murderer next door
Kale Brecht is an angry teen with plenty of reasons for melancholy. He witnessed his father's tragic death in a car accident in which he was the passenger. Blaming himself, he has a very rough year involving several run-ins with the law. In a fit of rage, Kale, played by Shia LaBeouf (Transformers, Indiana Jones 4), sucker punches his Spanish teacher in class. His surprisingly lenient sentence is three months house arrest, given only because he has not yet turned eighteen.
The crux of Disturbia (Full Screen Edition) is what the main characer does to fill his time. While his friends are partying in Hawaii for the summer, Kale quietly observes the neighborhood through binoculars and fancy camera equipment. Mostly he watches an attractive new neighbor (Sarah Roemer) whose only outfit seems to be a very tight, pink two-piece bikini. But after weeks of watching the neighbors go about their business, Kale notices certain patterns. He knows that when the middle-aged woman next door goes to tennis practice, her husband gets touchy with the maid. He knows when the shut-in mows his lawn. And he notices an older man with a suspicious vehicle and an affinity for scantily-clad young women, one of whom never leaves his house after a one-night-stand.
The trouble with being on house arrest is your credibility is shot. His mother, friends and even the police do not believe him when he warns about the secretive neighbor. The welcome climax comes after mmuch prolonged suspense. Certainly the premise is Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window but there is some of Saw, The Silence of the Lambs (Widescreen Special Edition) and even I Know What You Did Last Summer. There is a strong cast around Shia LaBeouf, including Aaron Yoo, David Morse and Carrie-Ann Moss. Disturbia (Widescreen Edition) is a surprisingly good film destined for blockbuster nights everyone.

Only Monica Belluci's fabulous beauty saves this disaster of a movie from ending up in the trash barrel. The plot is difficult to follow and not separated into scenes. It's too violent. Most of the characters are very unattractive, if not downright ugly. A mess, except for Monica.

A decent sequel
A good sequel to NightWatch, but if you did not enjoy NightWatch you may not enjoy this title. If you did like NightWatch then you need this title.
Let me first start this review by saying that you have to have seen the first film "Night Watch." Though its sequel "Day Watch" begins with the introductory section explaining what happened in the original, it is too short and fast, quite tough to follow even for those who have seen the first one. Moreover, you cannot fully understand the meanings of the concluding chapters of "Day Watch" without seeing some of the episodes in the predecessor.
In "Day Watch" there are so many things going on - vampires, sorcery, etc - plus so many characters - some interesting, others just dull. There are also "Chalk of Destiny," an impending war between the forces of Darkness and Light, and a very campy shower scene. Whatever you have seen in the preceding "Night Watch" such as the father-son theme between Anton (Konstantin Khabensky) and his son Yegor, is almost forgotten or takes a different turn in the second film.
What you see here instead is a series of loosely connected episodes. So Anton is now seen training a young intrepid partner (Mariya Poroshina), but Anton is accused of what he didn't do and next we are told that his son is "Great Dark One" and there is also "Great Light One" and ... in short, the overwritten script is simply a mess.
Still you can enjoy the film for what it is, a Russian dark fantasy with many imaginative and entertaining set-pieces. The director Timur Bekmambetov certainly has great visual style and the film's playful subtitles are also unique and interesting to see. I sincerely wish that he uses more coherent storyline for the third installment.

Terrific boxset
I found watching Resident Evil trilogy on Blu-ray was very enjoyable. You don't need to be a big fan of the games to enjoy the movies. The films had enough of the right stuff to make it worthwhile buying this boxset. The only downside is when watching blu-wizard I believe that when it switches to a special feature you lose a bit of the film, for the length of the extra you just watched.
Third Times A Charm
Following the events of the first two Extinction picks up a few years after Apocalypse left off. The zombies have basically taken over the entire planet. It's up to a group of people to try and survive the menace. At first I was kinda like "hmm another one what can they do?" then I saw it and I was pretty impressed with what I saw. I was a little lost at first.. but that didn't last long and everything clicked, making complete sense. If you watched the first two you should check out the third.

I'm bleedin', man!
It's not easy being a Saw fan. For one thing, nobody respects you for it. People think that the series is nothing but stomach-churning violence and bloodsoaked mind rot. They think it's like Hostel. And they judge you for it. Suddenly, your mother is worried about your mental health and the other kids at school don't wanna play with you. The guy at the video store gives you a funny look. If somebody asks you if you've seen any good movies lately, you feel obligated to lie. It's a hassle, to say the least. But I can handle that; the other kids at school never wanted to play with me anyway, and that was way before Saw came out. No, what really makes being a loyal Saw-ite so frustrating is the series itself: Even though I slavishly pursue the exploits of John Kramer and his endless supply of sharp objects and timekeeping devices, I'm painfully aware of the fact that every movie in the series thus far has been very, very flawed. Of the four that have been released, there isn't a single one that merits five stars! Saw II deserves four, maybe four and a half, but that's about as close as it gets. There's just too much wrong with the damn things: The acting is often wooden and hollow, plot turns are often convoluted and ham-fisted, clichés are strewn about like dirty laundry on a dorm room floor (I have a paper to write, okay?), and the characters, interesting as they can sometimes be, are often badly developed and pretty damn unsympathetic. Even the star of the show, John "Jigsaw" Kramer himself, is only a kinda-sorta-almost great addition to the pantheon of antagonistic masterminds; his cruel genius, relentless drive, and spine-tingling charisma are tempered by annoying clichés and the occasional self-contradiction. His crusade to make people appreciate their lives through gruesome torture is somewhat muddled- Kramer claims to want to help people, and yet he often victimizes those who inconvenience him, using his games as weapons rather than tools of salvation. It saps the movie of a lot of its dark irony and reduces John's hypnotic power. Indeed, these movies feature some truly boneheaded, uninspiring, groan-inducing moments, with poorly developed ideas and headscratching sequences interrupting the flow of things. No, this is not a collection of great movies. It's a hole that's greater than the sum of its parts, an epic story whose overall plot is a marvel of complexity, surprise, and prolonged tension. The twists are genuinely unexpected and grimly satisfying, and the plot is relentlessly addictive. But you probably already know most of that. Sorry to waste your time.
Now, before I continue with this review, I'd like to say one thing: If you haven't seen the first three movies, leave. Now. I'm not kidding. This is not the kind of series that you're supposed to watch out of order- everything in the Saw universe is connected. Events build on each other from movie to movie, linking together scenes and sequences in ways that only make sense if you've been on the ride since the beginning (some of them don't make sense even then). Indeed, the whole series is like one long movie, with credits breaking the flow every hour-and-a-half or so. Go back to the first Saw and start from there if you're interested. Another warning: If you've seen and hated the past three movies, go read a book or something. Saw IV is more of the same. This movie (and this review) is for those sick, sick individuals (such as myself), who saw the first three Saws and think that there's more to see. There is; Saw IV picks up from where we last left off, allowing the blood-soaked tale of John Kramer and his victims (not the word he'd use, I know) to continue unfolding. As in the previous films, revelations are fragmentary and non-linear. We see more of John's past (including the very first "game" he ever made somebody play), and get to glimpse even more deeply at his, er, uncommon view of life. Of course, there are plenty of gruesomely creative traps- the "mausoleum trap" that features at the beginning of the story is one of the best in the series. There are scenes of dark, dark justice as well. I don't want to give away too much, but let's just say that the worst fates in this movie are reserved for the people who really deserve it. The plot is hard to explain, simply because the movie doesn't really have its own story. It's another episode in the Saw narrative, with a whole host of characters and struggles being depicted simultaneously. All of these elements connect and interlock in consistently surprising and engrossing ways, and it is to the movie's credit that, for the most part, it rarely becomes confusing or chaotic. The parts interact beautifully, and the story's inherent complexity is handled quite artfully. Of course, there's a twist ending, and a very clever one at that. I sorta saw it coming, but that didn't ruin the fun. There was, however, a certain mean-spiritedness to the ending, a sense that the movie was trying to trick us (rather than the characters trying to trick one another), but the overall effect was satisfying.
So, what's my gripe? Well, there was the acting. Don't get me wrong, Tobin Bell is fantastic as Jigsaw, full of cool intelligence and raw insanity. It's these other guys that I don't like: As detective Peter Strahm, Scott Patterson is something of a melodramatic ham, notable for his flailing arm gestures and unconvincing anger. Lyriq Bent plays the role of Detective Rigg like he's trying to ad-lib his way through the movie in exchange for a free doughnut. The other actors are, for the most part, equally forgettable and uninteresting. Aside from that, there are some awkward jumps through time and space, annoying and unnecessary plot turns, unintentional cheesiness, convoluted narration, information overloads, and bad hair. The usual flaws of the series, really. It's what we Saw fans are forced to live with. If you're addicted to the exploits of Jigsaw, it's just another thing to deal with. Enjoy.
Tried to be a smarter film, but ultimately failed
Before watching Saw IV, I might suggest watching Saw III again, or at least finding a review that summarizes the main plot points. Anyone other than an entrenched Saw-vehicle fan or someone with a very good memory is going to find themselves a tad lost or confused. Not that I think it matters, though, because rewatching Saw III for insight into Saw IV is a waste of time in my opinion. But you'll be less lost.
I've enjoyed the Saw films for their vague and simplistic morality tales spun with healthy (or unhealthy) amounts of stomach wrenching carnage; somewhat of a dumbed-down and gored-up Seven. This film tried to buck the trend: it tried to be smarter, and while the gore is present, it's dealt out in significantly smaller portions.
The movie has a surprise ending. It could open doors, or it could have shut them down forever. Whichever, I've stopped caring, and if there is another film, I certainly won't watch it.
At least five minutes of this ninety-five minute film are repeated scenes. For example: a furious FBI agent flies into a rage and throws all of the papers off of his desk. Then they show the scene from a different angle, at a different starting point, and then they do it again, and then they do it again, and then they do it again, and then they do it again. Did that last sentence annoy you? Well, that's how the scene felt. Sadly, there were several scenes just like it, and they were incredibly annoying. It's not a hallmark of good filmmaking; rather, it's exactly the opposite.
As it was trying to be a smarter Saw, I was surprised at the outright stupidity of some of the characters. While I won't reveal secrets, I will pose this question: if you were a highly trained FBI agent (aren't they all highly trained?), and you come across the marionette/puppet that Jigsaw used in his videos, and you saw that the eyes of the puppet were red, and that they were moving, would you immediately get closer for a better look, or back away quickly, concerned of a potential trap? If you chose to get closer for a better look, then you're an idiot, and deserve what happens.
A film that presents its audience with a surprise ending has to stand up to the test of the `Second Viewing'. The Sixth Sense is the perfect example of such a film. Most people were surprised at the ending, and a good number of people watched the film again, to see if the director cheated at all. We all know that he didn't. It was a perfect film (the last perfect film he made, but how many people make even one downright awful film in their life?), and it stood up to the second, third, and fourth viewing. Everything is done absolutely right so that when the veil is lifted, you don't feel cheated.
Saw IV did not stand up to that test. It didn't stand up to its own `recap', where when the secret is revealed the director flashes back to important scenes as if to say, "See, I wasn't cheating...I set it up just so." But it wasn't just so, because there was absolutely ZERO motivation for the person involved in the surprise ending. None. And watching Saw III won't help you find any, because it's not there either.
My last beef with this is similar to a problem I had with Saw III. No offense to Tobin Bell personally, but on what planet does someone as pretty as Betsy Russell tie her star to him? I mean, is this pornography, where men could only feel comfortable watching it if a vile and unattractive man was involved in the picture, to ensure no homoerotic `uprisings'? No, it's not. And yes, every so often a Julia Roberts marries a Lyle Lovett--but not to the extent that it happens, or is displayed to have happen, on the silver screen. This is a problem endemic in Hollywood, even (or especially) in sitcoms. How many of George Costanza's girlfriends looked right with him?
At least one element of this film could have been realistic.

Nearly Deplotted, We Are Gatthered Here Today...
This version of Jack Finney's book Invasion of the Body Snatchers had some promise, but ultimately missed the opportunity. Apparently the studio didn't like the cut director Oliver Hirschbiegel delivered. My suspicion is that the original film, which was completed in 2006, was probably more coherent. The Wachowski brothers were hired for massive rewriting and James McTeigue directed the new scenes. The result is a film that takes an unexpected turn for the worse.
What's new in this rendition is that the victims of the alien virus aren't replaced by duplicates. Instead, the virus just acts within their own bodies, changing them so that they act as one organism-- we're talking a slightly nicer version of the borg from Star Trek. The idea of a more benevolent invader would have been a fresh interesting take and was where this movie was headed before the hack job. It would have been more insidiously delightful to explore the cost benefit analysis of succumbing to the invasion. No more wars, cruelty, and poverty on one side, while the stripping of a lot of what makes us human on the other-- also the collective vs. the individual. This probably would have come closer to Don Siegel's communist cold war scare overtones in the original movie Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
Instead the movie moves to more action sequences of fighting against a overtly hostile threat. This is where the original idea gets abandoned and the movie loses its way.
All of the actors put in decent performances here including an admirable job by Nicole Kidman in the lead role, Daniel Craig as her love interest (an excellent new James Bond by the way), a very good cameo from Veronica Cartwright (in the 1978 remake Body Snatchers), Jeremy Northam as the somewhat creepy ex-husband, and Jeffrey Wright as the scientist.
I think the studio should take the blame for dooming a film that had some potential. It's still an enjoyable watch and worth a rental, especially for alien invasion enthusiasts. I don't think I've ever seen a more equally distributed range of opinion by reviewers (from one to five stars). Where it all tallies out is about where I'd put it... 3 stars.
P.S. Although lesser known than Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Jack Finney wrote a couple of great books on time travel (From Time to Time and Time and Again) as well as several short stories. They go well beyond being just science fiction and are highly recommended.
AWESOME
this movie was just awesome. maybe the plot was a little cliche, but i had adrenaline pumping through me the entire time. this movie was so intense. but the whole thing was intense. O and it had a nice ending too. the problem with recent movies like cloverfield and i am legend, were the endings. but i was pleased with this one. i highly recommend it.
A reasonable film
Okay, so yeah, it's corny and cliche. To some extent though it does makes some valid points. I like the idea of without war and aggression and emotion humans cease to be human. Its a theme that's, no doubt, been used before but nevertheless is still interesting. The problem with this movie is that it doesn't spend enough time developing that theme. There's a good bit of running, and then some screaming, and then some crying, and then more running, and then some more crying, and then more running. Until the end when the point is of it all is finally discovered. I wasn't bored but I don't think its worth 4 bucks. I rented it when it was 2.50.
