Finally, A Decent One!
I usually don't go into watching an indie low budget film with many expectations - especially gay ones, because they are usually poorly made and cliche. With A Normal Life, I was pleasantly surprised. It's a quiet little film that slowly captures you when you least expect it, and by the end I was very moved. I almost felt like I was spying on the family next door. Some people may argue that situations like this don't exist anymore, but sadly they are an everyday occurence in most of the US (trust me - I'm originally from the southwest!). I think the director/writer really captured what a family goes through when making decisions about a gay family member. The acting is surprisingly good with a cast of unkowns (though some I recognize a couple from commercials), and the directing is simple and straight-forward. With a genre that's usually all about sex and naked boys, there should definitely be room for more films like this one. I was quite moved - well worth seeing.
